Waxing is a “semi-permanent” method of hair removal that works by removing hair by the roots. While new hair does eventually replace the old hair, it usually takes two to eight weeks to do so.
Types of Wax
Chin Waxing is generally done one of two ways. Hard or hot wax is applied to the treatment area in a thick layer and allowed to cool. As it cools, the wax hardens. When it has solidified, the aesthetician uses their fingers to pull it off. Hard wax does not stick to the skin and pulls out only hair.
Soft or strip wax is heated until it becomes as viscous as honey. The aesthetician smears a thin layer of the soft wax on the treatment site and then covers it with a strip of muslin or paper. They then quickly rip the strip off in the opposite direction of the hairs’ growth, thus removing the hair.
How Does Someone Remove Hairs Around the Chin and/or Upper Lip?
The aesthetician will first clean the treatment site. A topical anesthetic may be applied to ensure patient comfort during the waxing session. Our experienced professional may use either type of wax to remove the hair. If the client has a lot of hair, they may apply the wax two or more times. It all depends on your unique situation.
The skin will be sensitive after waxing, so the client should not sunbathe or visit tanning salons for 24 to 48 hours after their session. Waxing is most effective if the targeted hairs are at least 1/8 to ¼-inch long. The client should, therefore, let the hairs in the treatment site grow for at least three weeks before their appointment. They should not put lotion or deodorant on the treatment site before their treatment.
Who is a Good Candidate for Waxing?
Most people are considered to be good candidates for upper lip and chin waxing. An ideal candidate has hair in these areas that they would like to have removed. They should also understand that waxing will improve their appearance, but that it won’t completely change what they look like. A person is still going to have the same facial features after a waxing session.
