Laser Treatments

hair-removal

Light has been used for healing and recovery for many years. From reducing inflammation to promoting cell renewal, it offers many benefits for the skin that have been harnessed with the development of laser and intense pulsed light devices. At Bella Tu Med Spa, we offer several different laser treatments in Nyack, NY, to allow us to take advantage of these benefits.

What Are Laser Skin Treatments?

Laser skin treatments use focused beams of light at a specific wavelength to interact with the skin. Depending on the type of laser, this light energy can break down pigment, stimulate collagen production or remove thin layers of damaged skin. Laser technology is useful for a wide range of skin concerns, from fine lines to discoloration to scarring.

The Differences Between Laser and IPL Technology

While both lasers and IPL devices use light energy, the way they deliver that energy is different. A laser emits a single, concentrated wavelength that targets one specific structure in the skin, like melanin or water in the cells. IPL releases multiple wavelengths at once in broad pulses that scatter across a larger area of skin. IPL may be used for more diffuse concerns like redness and sun damage.

Our Light and Laser Treatments

Photofacial – IPL (for sun damage)

$300 per treatment

Photo Facial is a comprehensive treatment utilizing Intense Pulse Light to effectively treat imperfections, such as sun damage, brown spots, age spots and erythema (redness). This treatment is effective for the face and body. The number of treatments will vary according to the amount of sun damage.

Our certified staff is ready to use effective but comfortable laser technology that erases sun damage. You’ll enjoy a smoother, firmer, and clearer look to your skin after the laser treatment. A minimum of three treatments is suggested, but you’ll have a thorough consultation with our experts first.

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis is designed to improve the general health and look of skin. Acne, enlarged pores, uneven texture, scars, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, loss of fullness, fine lines, clarity and brightness can all be improved with laser genesis. For good results, you’ll often need multiple treatments.

Tetra CO2 Laser

This laser by Cartessa uses carbon dioxide laser energy to resurface the skin superficially and deeply. It uses CoolPeel technology, which delivers short, high-powered pulses that can remove damaged skin without causing excess heat to the surrounding tissue. With this device, patients can get the benefits of CO2 resurfacing, like smoother texture, reduced fine lines and improved skin tone, with less downtime than older laser systems typically require. We use the Tetra CO2 to treat concerns like sun damage, acne scarring, uneven pigmentation and enlarged pores.

The Benefits of Laser Treatments

One of the benefits of laser treatments is how adaptable they are. We can choose different wavelengths to match the specific concern that a patient is dealing with. Some lasers are deep and remove more skin, while others don’t remove any skin, but focus instead on heating tissues to stimulate renewal. Here are some of the ways that laser treatments can help:

  • Skin tightening laser treatments can help firm and lift areas where the skin has lost elasticity by triggering new collagen growth.
  • Laser treatments for sun damage can help reduce the appearance of dark spots, uneven tone and rough texture caused by prolonged UV exposure.
  • Laser treatments for under-eye bags can help improve the look of puffiness and dark circles by addressing skin laxity and promoting circulation in the delicate tissue around the eyes.
  • Laser treatments can help minimize the appearance of acne scars by resurfacing damaged skin and encouraging fresh, healthy cell turnover.
  • Certain lasers can treat redness and visible blood vessels near the surface of the skin and calm conditions like rosacea.

What to Expect From Your Appointment

Preparation

Most laser and IPL treatments require some preparation in the days leading up to your visit, though this preparation is not extensive. We ask that you avoid direct sun exposure and self-tanners for at least one week before your session because tanned or sunburned skin reacts differently to light energy and can become irritated more easily. We also recommend pausing any retinoids or chemical exfoliants three to five days beforehand, since these products increase skin sensitivity.

Treatment Expectations

What you feel during treatment depends on the type of laser or light being used. Laser Genesis, for example, produces a gentle warming sensation that most patients find comfortable, and sessions only last around 20 to 30 minutes. IPL treatments may feel more like a quick snapping sensation against the skin.

CO2 laser resurfacing is more intensive, so we apply a topical numbing cream beforehand and allow it to take effect before starting. Across all of these treatments, sessions are relatively quick and do not require general anesthesia or sedation.

Aftercare

Sun protection is the most important part of aftercare for any laser or IPL treatment. Your skin will be more sensitive to UV exposure after a session, so wearing a broad-spectrum SPF daily is something we strongly recommend. For lighter treatments like Laser Genesis and IPL, you can typically return to your normal routine right away, though mild redness may last a few hours to a day.

CO2 laser resurfacing involves a longer healing window, with redness and peeling that can last several days to a week as new skin develops. We will walk you through specific aftercare steps based on which treatment you receive, including when it is safe to reintroduce products like retinol and exfoliants.

FAQs About Laser Treatments

Who is a good candidate for laser treatments?

Most adults in good general health who want to address specific skin concerns can be considered for laser or IPL treatments. However, certain factors can affect your eligibility. Patients who are pregnant, have recently used Accutane or have active skin infections in the treatment area may need to wait. Skin tone can also be a factor, particularly with CO2 resurfacing, so we evaluate each patient individually before recommending a treatment plan.

Where can laser treatments be performed?

Laser and IPL treatments can be applied to most areas of the body. The face, neck, chest and hands are among the most frequently treated areas for concerns like sun damage, fine lines and uneven texture.

When will I see results from laser treatments?

Results depend on the treatment. After Laser Genesis, many patients notice a subtle improvement in skin brightness after the first session, with more visible changes appearing over a series of four to six treatments. IPL results can sometimes be seen within a week or two as pigmented spots darken and naturally shed.

How do I know which laser treatment is right for me?

The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation so we can assess your skin and talk through your goals. The right treatment depends on several factors, including what you want to address and how much downtime you are comfortable with. Some patients benefit from a single type of treatment, while others see the best results from combining options.
