Age-related changes to your skin are perfectly normal. The fact remains that you don’t have to accept these changes. A dermal filler may help you if you’re unhappy with the way your skin looks. At Bella Tu Medspa in Goshen, NY, and Nyack, NY, also serving those in the New City, NY area, we can help you to learn more about all our fillers, including the popular and effective Voluma.
How Long Does Voluma Last?
The results of this volumizing treatment may vary from person to person, but you can expect them to last for about two years. Once the HA-based gel is injected into the deeper layers of your skin, your treatment area will look noticeably plumper right away. Final treatment results don’t appear immediately, however. In fact, it may take up to two weeks for your skin to produce enough extra collagen to give you the look you want.
While you wait for your skin to produce the extra collagen, just remember that this treatment is so effective that you won’t need a second session until you see your final results. This means you will only need to come in for one injection session, which takes about 15 minutes. Ten to fourteen days later, you’ll have final results you’ll be able to enjoy for the next few years.
Extending Your Results
If you want your results to last, be sure to drink plenty of water. Hydrating your skin ensures that there is enough water in your skin to keep your collagen healthy. Moisturizing the outer layers of your skin is also very important. As part of your initial consultation, we will talk to you about how often you should moisturize to keep your skin as young and healthy as possible.
Other important ways to extend your results include eating a healthy and nutritious diet, wearing sunscreen whenever you go outside, refraining from smoking, and being careful about not drinking too much alcohol, which can dry the skin.
What Is Voluma?
A very small needle is used to inject this injectable dermal filler, which is made of hyaluronic acid-based gel. The gel is injected into the foundational layer of the skin. Your body produces high amounts of hyaluronic acid, also known as HA, when you’re young. It is, however, produced at a decreasing rate as you age until there is not enough to replenish what is being used.
Due to the lack of HA, your skin cannot retain moisture as effectively. A significant amount of volume is lost, as is the ability to produce collagen and elastin.
What Causes Facial Volume Loss?
A number of factors can lead to facial volume loss. An illness or a drastic change in diet and exercise routine can cause some people to lose a significant amount of weight, and this can cause us to look gaunt or hollow-cheeked. However, the most common cause of facial volume loss is insufficient production of collagen in the skin.
As time progresses, the rate decreases dramatically, beginning at age 25. By the time you turn 25, your skin also produces significantly less elastin, causing sagging cheeks.
What Is Treatment Like?
The first step to regaining a healthy, youthful midface is to schedule your first appointment. You will be asked for your complete health history so that we can determine if you are healthy enough to undergo this treatment. Candidates for this treatment are usually over 21 years of age, concerned with their midface appearance, and in fairly good health.
In order to qualify for this treatment, your skin must also be healthy. If you are trying to get pregnant, are already pregnant, or are breastfeeding, this treatment is not right for you. A history of keloid scarring or uncontrolled type 2 diabetes may also prevent you from receiving this treatment.
Preparing for Treatment
Protecting your skin from sun exposure is one of the most important preparation steps. You should consider using a preventative cream several weeks before your treatment if you have a history of acne breakouts.
In addition, you should refrain from smoking or drinking for a few days prior to your treatment. During your initial consultation, you will receive a complete list of preparation instructions. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Voluma contains lidocaine, an injectable numbing drug, and HA, which volumizes the skin. This makes it an extremely convenient anti-aging technique. Thus, you do not have to wait for a topical anesthetic to be applied and to take effect.
Once the scope of your treatment is determined during your initial consultation, we will let you know how long your session should last. If you’re only concerned about the appearance of your cheeks, for instance, your injection session will take about 15 minutes. Nonetheless, if you have multiple areas of concern along with your cheeks, your session will take longer. In general, treatment takes between 15 and 20 minutes per area.
